Here we meet Bomber. He has a little problem with a bad habit. He chews his bits! After trying to wrap him so he can't reach - we have managed to train him to suck a dummy instead. We had to place an adhesive bandage over the injury and he was on a course of injections to help it heal. After a while we suspected something else was causing his distress and it has become apparent in the last few days that he may have mange! He has been treated and already he is settling. Still sucking his dummy! |
| |
After a visit to the vets at Healesville Sanctuary they recommend Bomber get a nice dip in a soothing bubble bath, a medical solution to help his poor little scratchy skin. |

Recently our Intrepid Reg went UP in the World!
All dressed up with somewhere to go!
Going up - Oooh Reg! Our hero! It looks very scary |
The council call in the shelter to check for hollows that might contain just about anything?
Once Reg has given the all clear the boys with the toys go up and start felling. These trees were felled for safety where a road was being upgraded. No signs of wildlife were detected and we appreciated the chance to make sure nothing was injured or killed in the felling. We were very impressed by the professional manner of all involved

Meet MacIntosh - she was found with her dead mum, MacIntosh was covered in ticks and had a bad case of fleas! |
Looking snoozy after her x-rays
Here we see MacIntosh getting checked out at the Sanctuary. She was given an anaesthetic and had x-rays. She has many wounds and some are infected, especially one on her head (doesn't show in the photos).
A good feed is all you need after a long and tiring day at the hospital!
You can see below she looks a different girl a week later!
MacIntosh may look cute but she is a bit of a biter! Watch those fingers don't get bitten! |
| |
| |
Sometimes that first day out is just too overwhelming! |
I may be a big boy now but I still need feeding!
| |
Here's our new little boy - Biggles 900g and a bit flat and dehydrated, looking very tired. |
Look Mum - I think I've got a broken thumb! Biggles's thumb should not stick up like this - we will get him checked at the Healesville Sanctuary.

The Maryknoll Wildlife Shelter was at it again. It's old footage of course (September 2003 actually). The ABC have shown it recently - 3rd October 2008 @ 1pm - but keep watching - it's shown on Animal Planet from time to time all over the world! Aussie Animal Rescue - Episode 9 - Animal Epidemics In Western Australia, Kanyana Wildlife Hospital is fighting a flu epidemic affecting the local lizard population, and in Victoria at Maryknoll Wildlife Shelter, it is feared that a rescued orphan wombat may be suffering from a disease called mange.

The Shelter got a call from a lady at Dalmore. "There's a Seal on my doorstep!" We put her in touch with the Sleepy Hollow Wildlife Shelter at Tooradin and as you can see - the baby fur seal was rescued and then released in a safe spot later the same day. |
The Sleepy Hollow Wildlife Shelter at Tooradin believes the seal had travelled from water four kilometers away before making a nest of the family shoes on the lady's doorstep.

Meet Lenny wombat, his mum had been killed and he was on his own for some time before being found. |
A bit on the skinny side! All his bald patches are where the skin has died and fallen away after being attacked by wild wombats. The fur will grow back, but it takes time.
Poor Lenny has had a run in with a wild wombat that wasn't his Mum! He is mostly healed now but is still VERY thin. |
Lenny seen here with Sophie. Love must be blind!
Here we see Lenny getting a check up at Healesville Sanctuary - there is a bit of a worry about one of his scars, a nasty one on his back leg! |
Look how beautiful he is now with hair!!

Meet Samantha. She's a Swamp Wallaby, one of several in care at Marilyn's place. She is a very special girl, named after a very special lady. So this photo is for Aunty Elaine in the UK. So, come on Elaine, Samantha is looking forward to meeting you in November. Samantha came into care in June, 2008 weighing in at 667g and about 6 months old. Her mother had been killed at Sale. She was only just "furring" with a light covering of velvet on her skinny little body. She was very difficult to feed initially and pretty well had to be force fed with milk. There were some worries initially as to whether she would survive but, after much perseverence and TLC, she now drinks her bottle enthusiastically. She is now fully furred and weighs in at almost a kilo. She is thriving and should start taking an interest in eating solids soon.
